This Privacy Policy describes how the Fake News Detector Chrome extension collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our service. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

2. Data We Collect

The extension collects the following data:

• Article text: Text selected or hovered over by the user is sent to our API for fake news analysis. This text is processed in real-time and is NOT stored permanently.
• Page URL: The URL of the current page may be used to assess source credibility. URLs are not stored or logged.

We do NOT collect:

• Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
• Browsing history
• Login credentials or passwords
• Financial information
• Location data

3. How We Use Your Data

Data collected is used solely for the following purpose:

• To analyze article text and return a real-time fake news verdict (REAL or FAKE) with confidence score
• To assess source credibility based on domain name
• To verify claims against Google Fact Check API

We do NOT use your data for:

• Advertising or marketing purposes
• Selling to third parties
• Profiling or tracking user behavior
• Any purpose beyond fake news detection

4. Data Storage

Article text submitted for analysis is processed in real-time by our API hosted on Hugging Face Spaces. No article text is stored permanently on our servers. All data is discarded immediately after analysis is complete.

The extension does not use browser local storage, session storage, or any persistent storage mechanism to store user content.

5. Data Sharing

We share data with the following third-party services solely to provide our functionality:

• Google Translate API: For multilingual content detection across 19 languages
• Google Cloud Vision API: For OCR text extraction from images
• Google Fact Check API: For claim verification against fact-checking databases

These services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We do not share data with any other third parties.

6. Data Security

All communication between the extension and our API uses HTTPS encryption. We implement standard security practices to protect data during transmission. No sensitive personal data is transmitted or stored.

7. User Rights

Since we do not store any personal data, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete. You can stop using the extension at any time by disabling or uninstalling it from Chrome.

8. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
